Dr. Judy Korman, Assisi’s Chief Business Officer, has long been aware of the prevalence of canine separation anxiety (CSA), which affects an estimated 17% – or 13 million – dogs in the US alone. So, when she saw studies from Harvard University describing how severely depressed people were benefiting from the electromagnetic pulses emitted during MRIs, Dr. Korman began wondering about the potential benefits of Assisi’s targeted pulsed electromagnetic field (tPEMF™) technology, which utilizes similar signals, on anxiety disorders in dogs. Gathering a team of scientists, Dr. Korman set out to create a device to help these anxious dogs. The team did just that, developing the Calmer Canine Anxiety Treatment System and reporting their findings in a revolutionary 2019 pilot study.

After this pilot study demonstrated the ability The Calmer Canine Anxiety Treatment System has to reduce separation anxiety (SA) in dogs, Assisi conducted a double-blind, randomized, and placebo-controlled study to confirm these findings. This highly anticipated study, published in December of 2021, has confirmed what countless testimonials have demonstrated: Calmer Canine clinically resolves CSA.

The groundbreaking study conducted by North Carolina State University is the first of its kind to use video data to demonstrate the power of a non-pharmaceutical device, allowing for objective and unbiased collection of data. Just a week into treatments, half of the owners reported improvement in their dog’s anxious behaviors. By week four, almost two-thirds of dogs had a 100% or greater improvement in the time they spent relaxing when left alone.

After six weeks of treatments, the difference between the twenty dogs treated with an active Calmer Canine device and the twenty treated with a placebo device was clear: compared to the dogs with placebo treatments, those treated with Calmer Canine had a six-fold greater improvement in passive (non-anxious) behaviors. This significant increase in non-anxious behaviors resulted in a level of anxiety similar to the normal range for dogs not suffering from SA.

Unlike products that offer short-term anxiety relief, Calmer Canine utilizes a drug-free and sensation-free tPEMF signal that reduces inflammation in the anxiety center of the brain. As a result, Calmer Canine offers long-term relief for anxious dogs.

Looking ahead, the opportunities for helping anxious dogs are endless. Anecdotally, Calmer Canine has effectively reduced all kinds of anxiety, including stranger anxiety, travel anxiety, and thunder phobia. Assisi is confident that this therapeutic device will be life-changing for so many dogs, as it has the power to reduce everything from euthanasia to surrenders to shelters. Our mission to help resolve canine anxiety has just begun – and we are thrilled for what’s to come.
